We in Bishop Murphy Memorial School care deeply about environmental issues and wish to make a positive change in the environment around us. It is with this in mind that we have decided to foster environmental awareness in the entire school in a way that links to many curriculum subjects. We have formed a “green-schools” committee to lead the way in encouraging our students, teachers, non-teaching staff, parents and the wider community to develop responsible attitudes and commitment towards environmental awareness. We intend to make this an intrinsic part of the life and ethos of our school.

Our first theme is “Litter & Waste”. We examine the impact of litter and waste on the environment and explore practical means for reducing and minimising the amount of litter and waste produced by our school. Implementation of the Green-Schools programme is already underway and we hope to apply for our first award by Summer 2012. Special thanks to Ms Ahern for co-ordinating this excellent initiative

So Bishop Murphy Memorial School will be, le Cúnamh Dé proudly displaying a Green Flag in the not to distant future!
