The pupils in 6th have been enjoying reading the novel “Boy in the Striped Pyjamas”. As part of our journey with Bruno and all the other characters, we have been busy developing the boys’ vocabulary. At the beginning of our reading lessons the boys are given the opportunity to skim through the next five to six pages that lie ahead. They work in pairs while identifying new words. Using their iPads, they then log into Menti and add their newly discovered words. By the end of this exercise, we put the class wordle up on the interactive whiteboard. The pupils get the opportunity to use our web dictionary to identify synonyms. We also identify spellings strategies that are applicable to these new words. The boys are more confident in the shared reading activity once they have a grasp of the new vocabulary beforehand. Here is an example of our latest wordle as generated by Menti.
