This week in 5th class we learned about light. We learned that light travels in straight lines. Light can be refracted (bent) as it passes through some materials like air or water. Put a pencil into a glass of water and you will see an example of refraction.
We also learned that white light is made up of all the colours of the spectrum (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet). The colours of the spectrum are those which you see in a rainbow. We created rainbow spinners to demonstrate this. (Have a look at our pictures). When the spinner spins really fast you can see light reflected from all of the colours, but your brain cannot separate them so you see a mixture of all colours, which is white. We never thought that light could be so interesting.
