The soccer season kicked off in successful style at Bishop Murphy Memorial School yesterday with a convincing 5-0 victory versus Kilmagner Ns at Carrig Park .  It was a momentous occasion for the school in respect of it being the first opportunity for the pupils to wear their new kit in a meaningful manner. Goals from Leo Lynch (2), Callum Wheeler, Rajus Vitkevicius and an own goal ensured a great start to the soccer season at the school. The spirit and camaraderie among the squad of 20 was fantastic, as is the norm with the soccer squads down the years. The squad of 20 included boys from 3rd-6th classes. The younger boys really impressed with their skill and determination. Debutant James Mullery was named Man of the Match after the game. Many thanks to an old friend of Bishop Murphy’s Trevor Grumbridge, principal of Kilmagner NS,  for agreeing to the challenge match. The match was played in a very respectful and sporting fashion. More matches are lined up for the coming weeks and it is hoped that the pupils that missed out in squad selection yesterday will get their opportunity to shine next time.
