The Station Teaching model is one which sees a class being split into groups and each group is led by a teacher. This is a collaborative effort to increase student achievement.
In Bishop Murphy we had four station teaching groups in 2nd/3rd class. The stations were reading, grammar, spelling and listening. Each teacher had responsibility for one station and they rotated from one group to the next. Of course planning was key and this is why it was so successful. We found it to be a good method for differentiated instruction for students of different levels and learning styles.
The station teaching lasted for six weeks and the children looked forward to this slot in the timetable each day. Each teacher assessed his/her station and prizes were presented to those who made the most effort and progress. 3rd/4th class are already looking forward to their turn which will be after Easter
