The 21st of October 2011 was a momentous day for our school, as our football team was crowned North Cork Football Champions for the first time since 2002. The victory was well deserved as the boys have put in a massive effort in training since September. The campaign began with a blitz to determine who qualified for the final. After three hard fought matches, BMMS qualified for the final at the magnificent Mallow GAA complex. Scoil Ghobnatan of Mallow were our opponents on a blustery day in Mallow. BMMS started very nervously, but soon settled and built up a healthy lead at half time with the aid of the strong breeze. The second half was a tough period for the boys but they fought hard and even managed to increase their lead.
After the final whistle the trophy was gleefully accepted by joint-captains; Colm Hurley and Michael O Brien. Well done to all involved, most especially Mr Grumbridge and Ms Ryan, assisted by Mr Paul O Sullivan. The medals for this great victory will be presented soon. In the meantime, attention shifts to our own Bishop Murphy Cup. Keep up the great work boys. Your teachers, classmates and families are very proud of you.
